Spotlight on Craft Central for Clerkenwell Design Week

Over the past couple of weeks the spotlight has been on Craft Central! We have been busy with Made In Clerkenwell and Clerkenwell Design Week and have enjoyed every minute of it! Craft Central would like this opportunity to thank everyone.

First all of we would like to say thank you to Graphic Designers Turnbull Grey for their design work on our display posters, displaying what Craft Central does for the community!

We would also like to thank Kate Hodgson for her inspirational quote summing up what Craft Central means to her. Kate is based at Craft Central studios and has been a member here for 19 years. Kate makes wonderful pieces of jewellery inspired by her passion for drawing. She also shares this love for drawing through her involvement in Hackney Children's Art School were she teaches children to draw.

In the entrance foyer of St John's Square building there was a display for Spotlight on Craft Central, showing the four aspects of Craft Central. Places and spaces, network, in business and on show. Each of these four aspects held displays by artists who represent each phase of our network and was curated by guest curator Charlene Lam of Creative Clerkenwell.

Representing Places and Spaces was Sarah Hocombe's work. Sarah creates fresco fragments using small pieces of reclaimed brick.

Four very different styles of work represent Craft Central Network. TheBigForest create handmade wool felt bears which are distinctly unique using bright and bold colours. Cornish based maker Rob Braybrooks creates striking art pieces using hand cut reliefs to capture details. KuKu Big Bag are a unique brand of hand crafted modern and functional bags, which are designed for creative professionals. Last but not least is Maggie Smith who makes amazing basketry work and offers workshops from her Northampton based studio.

Bronagh Kennedy represented In Business, Bronagh creates fun quirky limited edition prints, the prints bring together her love of architecture, photography and cities combining her love of colour patterns and structures.
Hats by London based award winning milliner Katherine Elizabeth represented On Show. Katherine creates hand made hats to a high quality while always adding a personal touch to each piece, she also has hat making workshops and is involved in Craft It Yourself at Craft Central.

And a big thank you to photographer Alex Witt for his wonderful pictures from Made in Clerkenwell and our Spotlight on Craft Central display. And to Studio Roso for their sculptural lighting installation for Clerkenwell Design Week.

Finally Craft Central would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone that has participated in Made in Clerkenwell and Clerkenwell Design Week and making the last two weeks successful, we are already looking forward to next year!
